Breaking: Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Oluropo Adegbenro, dies

Commissioner for Health in Ondo State, Dr. Wahab Oluropo Adegbenro, has died.

KaftanPost correspondent was reliably informed about the septuagenarian’s death via telephone conversation with the state Commissioner for Works and Housing, Mr. Saka Yusuf.

He said Dr. Adegbenro died early Thursday morning but could not confirm if the late commissioner died of COVID-19.

The demise of the commissioner comes barely 24 hours after Governor Rotimi Akeredolu declared himself positive for coronavirus.

Born on 5th June 1955 at Ilara-mokin in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, late Adegbenro had his primary school education at Muslim Primary School, Ilara-mokin.

He was a student of the prestigious Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, between 1962 and 1967.

Adegbenro was later admitted to the University of Benin where he graduated with Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B; B.S).

He was a member of the Nigeria Medical Association; member of the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria; Associate Member, Royal College of General Practitioners of London; and member of Nigeria Guild of Medical Directors.

In 1985, he established Crown Hospital, Akure, where he was the Chief Medical Director.

Between 1997 and 1999, he was appointed the Vice-Chairman, Ondo State Committee on Sports for the Disabled.

In 1999, he was appointed chairman of the Committee on Sports by Governor Adebayo Adefarati.

He was later made Director, Ondo State Waste Management Board from 1999 to 2002.

In 2003, he was appointed Commissioner for Culture and Tourism by late Governor Olusegun Agagu.
