President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the Super Eagles for maintaining a 100 percent record in the group stage of the ongoing AFCON competition in Cameroon.

Nigeria defeated Guinea-Bissau 2-0 in their final Group D fixture on Wednesday, after 1-0 and 3-1 wins against Egypt and Sudan respectively.

A barren first half encounter was recorded before the Super Eagles got a breakthrough after the break with two goals behind the net.

Umar Sadiq converted a cross from Kelechi Iheanacho, before William Troost-Ekong tapped in a loose ball after majestic footwork from Moses Simon.

However, Buhari, in a statement issued Wednesday by his spokesperson, Femi Adesina, urged the Austin Eguavoen-led team to maintain and even surpass the terrific form that made them leaders in the group stage, as Nigeria hopefully looks forward to a total of seven emphatic wins in the competition.

The President expressed confidence that the positive reputation of good sportsmanship, the traveling fans, sportswriters and the football team had demonstrated in Cameroon will continue to enliven the importance of sports, particularly football, as an enabler of development, peace, tolerance, friendship, and cooperation.

He also wished the Super Eagles the very best, and promised that his administration would continue to support the efforts of international, regional and national football organisations to use the sport as a tool to build a better and peaceful world.

Having finished top with nine points, the Pharaohs finished in second place with six points, thanks to a 1-0 victory over Sudan.
