About three directors of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group on Wednesday reportedly resigned in the wake of the ongoing bicker between the group and the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The bank directors include the Group Managing Director of UBA Plc, Kennedy Uzoka; Managing Director of First Bank, Adesola Adeduntan; and Managing Director of Sterling Bank Plc, Abubakar Suleiman.

According to reports, their voluntary resignation may not be unconnected with the recent feud between the NESG and the CBN after a controversial press release by the economic group alleging that Godwin Emefiele was seeking immunity even as it also discredited the macroeconomic policies approach of the apex bank as a control measure towards saving the country’s economy.

Recall that the CBN reacted to series of indictments made against it by the group suggesting that section 51 of a proposed Banking and Other Financial Institution (BOFIA) Bill aimed at immunity for the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Details of an official press release by the CBN aimed at dousing some of the claims by the economic group with its hit largely on issues around the apex banks policies and programs including agricultural borrowing programme, immunity clause among others.

These issues, which hammered on stability of the economy where defended by the CBN.

Despite the prompt response by CBN, the widespread attack on the apex bank was reportedly faulted by some bank directors who felt uninformed by the group prior to release.

Reports further revealed that the release by the group on Tuesday was not approved by the board members, thereby causing loud discordant tunes among them.

This led to crisis of opinion among the members who were also loyal to the CBN and guided by the operations of the apex bank.
