CDS, service chiefs storm Maiduguri in the wake of Dikwa attacks

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Lucky Irabor, accompanied by the Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Isiaka Amao and the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Awwal Gambo paid their first operational visit to the Theatre Command in Maiduguri on Sunday.

Irabor and his team were received by Maj.-Gen. Farouq Yahaya, Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj. Gen. Abdul Khalifa, the General Officer Commanding, 7 Division of the Nigerian Army and other principal staff officers of the Military Command and Control Centre at the Headquarters of the Air Task Force.

Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj. Gen. Abdul Khalifa is also expected to brief the CDS and the service chiefs on the developments in the North East during the visit.

It was gathered that the service chiefs would also pay courtesy visits to the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Ibn-Garbai, and Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno.

Meanwhile, Boko Haram sect attacked Dikwa town, in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno state with hundreds of residents fleeing into the bush, barely 24 hours after the new service chiefs were appointed last week Tuesday.

The sect members were said to have stormed the Borno community in a large number of gun trucks and motorcycles and engaged the troops as hundreds of residents fleed into bush for safety.
