Following the Blues’ 1-0 Champions League group-stage defeat to Dinamo Zagreb, Chelsea sacks manager, Thomas Tuchel

With two losses in their first six Premier League games, they have had a mediocre start to the league season.

After new owners Boehly and Eghbali bought the club  for a record-breaking sports franchise price of £4.25 billion.

The aspirational US businessmen have moved rapidly to remove Tuchel and are in the process of restructuring every facet of the Blues’ operations.

In a statement, the club said Tuchel “will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.”

It added: “As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.

“Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.”

It comes after Tuchel criticised Chelsea’s “huge underperformance” in the Champions League group match, saying his side lacked “hunger and intensity” in the shock 1-0 loss at Dinamo Zagreb. He also said “I’m angry on myself, I’m angry on our performance. It’s not aggressive enough on the ball, it’s not enough individually or enough as a team’’.

The Blues spent a one-window Premier League record £273 million to retool the team, and the highly rated German coach has overseen three losses in seven games this season.

One of the early prospects for the position of new Chelsea manager is likely to be Graham Potter, the manager of Brighton, and Mauricio Pochettino, the former PSG and Tottenham coach.
