Cholera outbreak leaves 20 dead in Bauchi

A fresh cholera outbreak across Bauchi State has left no fewer than 20 persons dead.

According to the Commissioner of Health, Dr Aliyu Mohammed Maigoro, in an update on the situation during a media briefing on Tuesday, about 322 persons have reportedly been infected in the outbreak across nine local government areas of the state.

Maigoro explained that the index case, a 37-year-old patient, was admitted at Burra General Hospital on April 24, 2021.

In a similar situation, some 15 people eere reported dead some days ago after an outbreak of cholera in Koya village of Minjibir Local Government Area of Kano State.

Forty others were also confirmed hospitalised as the result of the outbreak, with the cause unknown.

Reports say victims were women and children and they experienced diarrhoea and vomiting.
