Commonwealth Games 2022 declared open in colourful ceremony

The opening ceremony for the 2022 Commonwealth Games took place on Thursday at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

The Queen’s message was read out by Prince Charles. On behalf of the Queen, Prince Charles declared open the CWG 2022.

The African countries arrived dressed in some striking fashion, while PV Sindhu and Manpreet Singh led India.

The competition officially begins today July 29. On August 8, the CWG 2022 concludes.

Dame Louise Martin, president of the Commonwealth Games Federation was also present.

The national anthem was then performed by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, a choir, and opera singer Samantha Oxborough.

At the Alexander stadium in Birmingham, England, performers take the stage for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.

Up to 4,500 participants will compete in 19 sports, including eight parasports, as part of Birmingham 2022’s program.

Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume, and Innocent Oborududu, the team’s captain, are among the 94 competitors who will participate for Nigeria.
