The corps member said he embarked on the project after identifying paucity of potable water as the community’s major challenge.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Ms Caroline Embu, NYSC Coordinator in Plateau, commended the corps member’s resilience and commitment in sourcing for funds to execute the project.

According to her, his gesture has demonstrated one of the cardinal points of the NYSC scheme, which is, “Service to fatherland and impacting the lives of the host community”.

She said that the corps member appealed to the community leader to allow him site the project, at a central point for both Muslims and Christians, which also illustrates building national integration; another cardinal point of the scheme.

In his remarks, Mr. Gomche Ibrahim, the Secretary of the community, commended the corps member for donating the bore-hole, saying it would alleviate the community’s plight for search of potable water.

According to Ibrahim, the borehole facility is the first of its kind in this community.

He said that posterity would not forget Olamilekan and promised that the community would ensure the project was well maintained.

Earlier, the corps member disclosed that seeking for funds for the project was very challenging, as he went from shop to shop in markets appealing for donations from people.

He further disclosed that he wrote a proposal to a professor in the University of Ilorin, who commended his effort and asked him to use the fund he had gotten for the geographical visibility study and send the result to him.

He revealed that when the professor received the result of the survey, he sent a geologist to sink the borehole in the community.

Some members of the community who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) expressed gratitude with the kind gesture of the corps member.

Mrs. Rabi Murtala and Mrs. Talatu Yohanna said the gesture would ease her search for water, especially during the dry season.
