The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Friday, announced 51 new cases of coronavirus in the country.

This is the third day in succession that the nation recorded an incredible surge in cases, confirming the worst fears of Nigerians about an impending blast.

As revealed by the NCDC in a tweet, Lagos State continues to dictate the pace, accounting for almost 60 percent of new infections with 32.

In distant second and third are Kano and Kwara States, amassing six and five respectively.

The Federal  Capital Territory, Oyo and Katsina States recorded binary cases, accompanied by Ogun and Ekiti with one each.

The fresh additions means Nigeria is just seven away from hitting 500 positive cases.

Just like the infection continues to rise, the fatality rate is even more worrisome.

Three persons lost their lives to the virus on Friday, taking the death toll to 17, averaging one death in exactly 29 cases.

Suprisingly, however, the country’s recovery rate slipped for the first time in a long while.

Just five persons defeated the virus on Friday, unlike previous days where double digits were recorded.
