There is palpable tension in Nasarawa State following the death of Suleiman Adamu, the lawmaker representing Nasarawa Central Constituency in the state’s House of Assembly.
Adamu, who passed away on Thursday from complications related to COVID-19, was buried the following day according to Islamic rites.
Consequently, Governor Abdullahi Sule ordered the closure of the legislative building for decontamination.
Sule, who disclosed this at a media briefing in Lafia Sunday, added that the closure would enable the state government to trace all the contacts of the dead lawmaker.
He said: “The Speaker and all members of the Assembly have agreed to be isolated and their samples have been taken for COVID-19 test.”
The lawmaker, who was the first COVID-19 casualty in the state, died in Keffi Thursday.
According to him, the victim took ill and was admitted at the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, where his sample was collected after showing symptoms of COVID-19.
Sule added: “Before the result could return, the member had died and his remains buried according to Islamic rights in Nasarawa local government area.
“But when his result came out on Saturday, it was positive. Unfortunately, all those who attended the burial did so not knowing his status.
“The member participated in all the Assembly sittings, a development which has complicated our situation.”
