Covid-19: Nigeria records second fatality in 48 hours, 156 new cases

For the second time in barely 48 hours, Nigeria recorded death from the coronavirus.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) which announced this via Twitter, also confirmed 156 new cases, taking the country’s tally to 164, 912.

According to the agency, the fresh cases was recorded in 10 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Lagos led the way with 50 cases, followed by Enugu (43), Adamawa (40), FCT (8), Ogun (5), Akwa Ibom (3), Plateau (3), Jigawa (1), Kaduna (1), Oyo (1) and Rivers (1).

The NCDC also revealed that 49 patients were discharged, taking the total recoveries to 155, 012.

With the new death, the country’s fatality reached 2,063.

Meanwhile, globally there has been over 148 million cases, nearly 86 million recoveries and more than 3.12 million deaths.

Although the United States of America is the epicentre with over 32 million infections, India is recording a frightening surge in the last month.

Coronavirus deaths in the nation have passed the 200,000 marks, with cremations taking place around the clock in some regions.

US President Joe Biden said additional vaccines would be shipped to the country.

Indian officials said 3,293 people died in the past 24 hours, the first time the country saw over 3,000 fatalities in one day.
