The Ondo State Government has confirmed the first Covid-19 related death in the state.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro, announced this to journalists in Akure, the state capital on Monday.

KaftanPost correspondent, in a swift follow-up, ascertained from the Health Commissioner’s office that the report was valid.

According to the Commissioner, the patient who was receiving treatment at the state’s Infectious Disease hospital (IDH), however, had an underlying challenge of renal failure, which worsened his case and led to his eventual death.

In his statement, “the deceased man was one of those that came into the State from Lagos after testing positive to Coronavirus”.

Dr. Adegbenro said his body would be buried in accordance with laid down rules by the NCDC.

He further added that other COVID-19 patients in the state were, however, in stable condition.

It would be recalled that the cases of Covid-19 infections had come on the rise in the past few days in the state, leading to a total number of 16 cases with 6 already discharged.

The Commissioner called for calm as he expressed optimism that the pandemic shall be overcome in the state.
