The British Government have denied Air Peace landing permit to evacuate Nigerians who are stranded in the United Kingdom.

This was revealed in a statement on Sunday by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ferdinand Nwonye.

The ministry explained that the evacuation of the stranded Nigerians, which was scheduled for today (Monday), has been postponed to Tuesday as a result of the recent development.

It further stated that the flight would be taking off from the Gatwick Airport, London rather than the Heathrow Airport, which was originally planned.

The Chairman, Air Peace Limited, Allen Onyema, and the airline’s management was commended by the Federal Government “for their commitment and patriotism in ensuring that our stranded nationals in the United Kingdom return home safely.”

Following an appeal by the Federal government, the Government explained that Air Peace had to involve the services of another airline, Global Air Charter, to make the evacuation of the stranded citizens possible, rather than remitting the fares paid by the stranded Nigerians.

“The Federal Government, however, regrets any inconvenience these changes might have caused,” the statement added.
