David Oyetokunbo Oyelowo, a British Nigerian actor who has made a name for himself in the international film industry, won the Ian Charleson Award in 2001 for the best performance of actors under 30 in a classical play, and featured as “King Henry VI” part 1,2 and 3 in a stage play by the Royal Shakespeare Company. He also played the historic drama film “selma” by Martins Luther King Jr in 2014.

Oyelowo featured as the stylish English spy in an audiobook adaptation of the 007 novel by Anthony Horowitz, “Trigger Mortis” in 2015 after being contacted by the estate of the original James Bond to assume the role.

Oyelowo is one of the more leftfield choices on this list as he was the first black man to have ever played the role of the white English King. Now the actor is up for the role of James Bond.

Oyelowo explained recently that being cast in the role would “expand horizons” and give Black Children “a superhero to identify with.” “It’s not lost on me the meaning of someone like me playing a role like James Bond,” he told the newsmen.

“It’s going to be something that’s going to expand horizons. One of the most beautiful things I’ve seen on Halloween in America is the white kids in Black Panther costumes running around.”

“I didn’t have a superhero to identify with growing up on a council estate in Islington,” Oyelowo added, reflecting on his own childhood.

The 42-year-old Selma actor is an Awe prince in Oyo, Nigeria. He began his performing profession in 1998 and has since received various awards, two nominations for Golden Globe Awards, two National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards, one Critics Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a film. In 2016, Oyelowo was appointed Officer of the British Empire (OBE) for his drama services.

In 1953, the British journalist and novelist Ian Fleming wrote the James Bond series. It consists of a fictional British Secret Service agent’s two short story collection and twelve novels.

There have been other authorized Bond material writers since Fleming’s death in 1964, including John Gardner, who wrote fourteen novels and two novelizations, and there have been more than 30 novels and at least 26 James Bond-based films.

Eleven actors have played the role, mostly Roger Moore, Sean Connery, Daniel Craig, and Pierce Brosnan. Oyelowo intends to discuss further with the producer of James Bond, Barbara Broccoli.
