The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has denied ever engaging Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, as its brand ambassador.

In a tweet on Sunday evening, the health agency denounced the movie star or anyone else being associated with its campaign against coronavirus.

“As an agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria, NCDC has not engaged brand ambassadors as part of our response to COVID-19,” it said.

“We continue to emphasise that all Nigerians maintain social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

NCDC’s disclaimer trails suggestions that Funke Akindele, its supposed brand ambassador, flouted President Muhammadu Buhari’s lockdown order in Lagos.

The comic actor clearly snubbed the social distancing direction by the Federal and state governments to host a birthday party for her husband with many guests in attendance.

Nigerians expressed disgust, banking on the notion that Mrs Bello was the face of the COVID-19 campaign after appearing on NCDC’s public service message.

However, NCDC has said it has no business whatsoever with Mrs Bello and the said message reportedly deleted on its site.

Funke Akindele was arrested by the Lagos State Police with other high-profile Nigerians in attendance asked to turn themselves in.
