Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival surge has had at least eight people confirmed dead by authorities.

The concert was held at Houston’s NRG Park, United States (US) on Friday, November 5.

The Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña, while addressing a press conference on Saturday, said people began to fall at 9pm when Travis was performing.

He said, “People began to fall out, become unconscious, and it created additional panic.

“17 people were taken to the hospital, including 11 in cardiac arrest.”

They also confirmed that eight persons have died, with many still in the hospital.

Although their cause of death is still unknown, investigations have started.

The Houston Police Executive Assistant Chief, Larry Satterwhite, said the promoters of the concert had to end the Festival due to the incident.

Larry said, “Suddenly we had several people down on the ground, experiencing some type of cardiac arrest or some type of medical episode and then we immediately started doing CPR, and moving people right then, and that’s when I went and met with the promoters, and Live Nation, and they agreed to end early in the interest of public safety.”

The Astroworld Festival has released a statement on Saturday consoling those who lost their lives and their loved ones.

The statement read: “Our hearts are with the Astroworld Festival family tonight especially those we lost and their loved ones.”

“We’re focused on supporting local officials however we can. With that in mind the festival will no longer be held on Saturday.”

The concert, which had approximately 50,000 people, had the rapper’s girlfriend, Kylie Jenner and her sister, Kendall, in attendance.

Travis, in a video, has apologized for the event.

He said, “I just want to send out prayers to the ones that were lost last night. We are actually working right now to identify their families… ”

Another Police officer has reported that a security guard was also found unconscious. When revived, the medical staff noticed a prick on his neck indicating that he was injected with drugs.

According to him, he said the security guard was trying to restrain someone and he felt a prick on his neck and he went unconscious. It was reported to have been Narcan.
