Emir of Daura, Umar Farouk Umar, has been hospitalised at the Intensive Care Unit of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Kastina State.
He was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday night after suffering from high blood pressure.
Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, had on Monday shut down the emir’s palace to control the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the entire Daura Local Government Area.
Six persons reportedly died of COVID-19 in the palace on Monday and there is tension that the monarch’s current health condition may be connected to the contagion, especially with the recent spate of deaths among northern traditional rulers.
Daura is the hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The town recorded Katsina’s first case of COVID-19.
