Nollywood actor, Shawn Faqua, has noted that entertainers shouldn’t not depend on awards as validation for the work put into their crafts.
In an interview with Sunday Scoop, he said an entertainer should allow his work to speak for him and an award should only be an ‘icing to the cake’.
According to him, sometimes the great ones don’t get awards because awards is not a confirmation of good works but a recognition of one’s work.
He said, “I don’t believe entertainers should depend on awards for validation. I believe one’s work should speak for one. If the validation comes, it would just an icing on the cake.
“The cake itself is the work that one puts out constantly, and that is what would guarantee that one keeps getting jobs. Sometimes, these things can be flawed.
“It is not a confirmation that what one is doing is right or wrong. It just feels good that people recognise and appreciate one’s work.”
The actor was recently nominated at the last concluded African Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).
