Christian Eriksen has been discharged from hospital less than a week after his horrifying collapse during Denmark’s Euro 2020 game against Finland.
The Inter Milan star suffered a cardiac arrest during the Group B fixture and had to be given CPR on the side of the pitch at the Parken Stadium as he was shielded from view by his distraught teammates.
The midfielder was eventually stretchered off having regained consciousness and the game subsequently resumed, with Finland winning 1-0.
He had been recovering in a hospital close to the stadium but has now been discharged.
A Danish FA statement said: “ Christian Eriksen has been through a successful operation and was today discharged from Righospitalet. Today he also visited the national team in Helsingor – and from there he will go home and spend time with his family.”
Denmark returned to action on Thursday evening for the first time since Eriksen’s collapse and were beaten 2-1 by Belgium in a game which was paused during the tenth minute as fans, players and staff united in a minute’s applause in a message of support.
The statement also included a message from Eriksen himself, which said: “Thank you for the massive number of greetings – it has been incredible to see and feel. The operation went well and I am doing well under the circumstances.
“It was really great to see the guys agains after the fantastic game they played last night. No need to say that I will be cheering them on against Russia on Monday.”
