The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), on Wednesday restated commitment to fight child trafficking and other inhuman activities in the area.

The Acting Secretary, FCT Social Development Secretariat (SDS) Mrs Safiya Umar, gave the commitment when she visited FCT Unity Children’s Home in Gwako village under Gwagwalada Area Council.

Umar said the aim of the visit was to compare notes with what some individuals were alleging against the home in Gwako.

She explained SDS was not against individuals setting up orphanages in FCT but that they must operate within the confines of the law.

Umar, who said that SDS was committed to the welfare of orphans and vulnerable, debunked insinuation making around that the secretariat was not concern about the plight of children in Gwako village.

“The children under our care are safe; they enjoy education, good feeding and other things that can make them happy.

“All Nigerians should be on deck, wherever you are coming from, which ever state, FCT Unity Children’s Home is a melting pot.

“Children, either abandon by their suspected parents, those picked by security agencies or beggars on the street, every child of the 36 states is here.

“Nobody should feel restrained or sentimental in helping the unity school and home,” she said.

She urged well to do individuals to evolve measures that would assist government in caring for the children, adding that FCTA was doing well but also support from well to do Nigerians.

The Director, Gender, Social Development Secretariat, Mrs Agnes Hart, said the unity home presently had 120 children, comprising boys and girls in separate hostels, adding that there was enough food items for them in the home and secretariat.
