Gombe govt donates N7.3m items to inmates

Gombe government, on Thursday donated items worth N7.3 million to inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) in the state.
Mrs Naomi Awak, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, presented the items to Mr. Ahmadu Adamu, state controller of NCS in Gombe.
“We are here to present these items to inmates in all the five custodial centres in the state. The items include 500 mattress, 500 mats, 500 blankets and other laundry and toiletries,” Awak said.
The commissioner said the items were donated based on request from NCS in the state.
Awak said, “the state government is concerned about the wellbeing of every person including inmates.”
She explained that the items were presented through the state’s special intervention programme for the care of the inmates in line with its priority to improve on the lives of the people.
The Commissioner restated the Gov. Inuwa Yahaya-led administration’s commitment to meet the yearning and needs of the people.
On his part, Adamu thanked the state government for the intervention to support the inmates, who he said deserved a lot of care and love.
“Inmates are victims of circumstances; whether by commission or by ommission. They are to be cared for and loved. We are grateful to the state government for showing them love,”he said.
The controller assured that the items would be judiciously used across the five custodial centres in the state for the benefit of the inmates.
