Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger State this morning received the just released students of Salihu Tanko Islamiyya, Tegina in the state capital, Minna.
The governor stated that a total of 90 students were released and that they have all been checked medically and ascertained fit except for four of them.
He said the kidnap and release of the students show “the sickness and madness in the heads of these criminals, to keep young innocent children for over 80 days”.
A terse statement by the governor’s press office accompanied by images of the children on Facebook said, “Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State while recieving the released abducted children of Salihu Tanko Islamia school Tegina at the government house alongside parents of the children”.
Recall that 136 pupils from the school were abducted in May.
School officials in June said 15 students escaped while six died in captivity.
But confirming the release of the children last night, headteacher, Abubakar Alhassan, could not give an exact number of students freed but said none are in captivity.
