The dualization of Akure Road has officially commenced, following a flag-off ceremony led by Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. The event, which took place at Arakale-Oke Aro Junction, marks the beginning of Phase One of the project—spanning a 10-kilometre section from Cathedral Junction to Kilometer 10 along the Akure–Idanre corridor.
According to a female newscaster from KAFTAN TV, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development, describing the road project as vital to the state’s rapid growth and prosperity.
“Today marks another historic milestone in our journey to transform our dear Sunshine State into a hub of economic growth and development,” the governor stated.
The governor emphasized that the project fulfills one of his major campaign promises and aligns with his administration’s Seven-Point Development Agenda. He noted that the project is not an isolated one but part of a broader, carefully designed blueprint aimed at enhancing the state’s infrastructure, boosting economic activities, and improving the quality of life for residents.
“We are not just promising opportunities—we are creating them. This road project stands as a powerful testament to our resolve to build an Ondo State where all citizens can thrive in an environment of progress and shared prosperity.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa assured residents that the road will be completed to the highest standards and within the stipulated timeframe. He also reiterated that all ongoing road projects across the state—including those inherited from previous administrations—will be completed.
Highlighting the urgent need for dualization, the governor pointed out that the limitations of a single carriageway have contributed to increased traffic accidents and loss of lives in the corridor. The new dual carriageway, with a robust pavement structure and a 28-meter-wide roadway, is designed to handle heavy vehicular traffic efficiently.
The project will feature:
-
Modern traffic management systems
-
Solar-powered streetlights
-
Durable pavement for long-term use
Also speaking at the event, the Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for fulfilling his promise. He said the project demonstrates the governor’s genuine commitment to developing the state capital.
“Thank you very much for doing this for us. This is just the beginning. We look forward to more, especially the big one—the flyover project. We appreciate you, pray for you, and believe God is on your side,” the monarch said.
This dualization project is more than an infrastructure upgrade—it symbolizes the strategic vision for a connected, modern, and prosperous Ondo State.
