Unknown gunmen have reportedly attacked the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi (FUAM), the Benue State capital and kidnapped some students.

This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by the university’s Director of Information, Protocol and Public Relations Unit (IPPR), Rosemary Waku, confirming that the incident occurred on Sunday night.

According to the institution’s PRO, the gunmen took an unspecified number of students away at gunpoint on campus after shooting sporadically.

The incident has been reported to the police and all relevant security agencies by the school, according to the statement.

“The University has not heard anything from the students or their captors since the unfortunate incidence took place.”

Confirming the incident, state Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene Sewuese, said three students of the institution were kidnapped on their university campus.

Benue State Command has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident.

The development comes less than a week after students of Greenfield University, Kaduna, were also abducted on campus.

Few days after their abduction, three of the students were killed by the bandits on Friday.
