Gunmen kill two soldiers in Anambra

Unknown gunmen on Saturday, killed two operatives of the Nigerian Army during an attack on Isuofia in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The gunmen killed the soldiers in a gun duel.

Reports also stated that four of the gunmen were killed in the gun duel while others escaped.

The Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development.

He said police operatives have been deployed to the scene, and that normalcy has been restored in the area.

The state’s Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu, who also confirmed the incident, said the Toyota Avenza with which the hoodlums launched the deadly operation was recovered.

“A gang of gunmen struck the Nigerian Army checkpoint at Afor-Uzo Junction, Isuofia, this morning. Unfortunately for the hoodlums, they met their Waterloo,” Nwosu said.

“Our gallant and alert security agents who gave them a hot chase immediately returned fire and neutralised four of the gang members in a fierce exchange of shootings. Their Toyota Avenza with which they launched the deadly operation was recovered.”

Isuofia is the hometown of the governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo.
