Some gunmen suspected to be bandits have reportedly abducted students of Green Field University in Kaduna State.

As of the time of filing this report the exact number of students abducted could not be ascertained.

The gunmen were said to have stormed the school around midnight yesterday.

They were said to have opened fire to scare away residents before kidnapping some students.

The abduction happened hours after Governor Nasir el-Rufai of the state insisted that bandits must be killed and not spared when apprehended noting that it was a unanimous decision by governors across the Federation.

With this development the number of students in the clutches of kidnappers in Kaduna State has increased as twenty-nine (29) of those abducted from Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Igabi LGA are still languishing in the strongholds of bandits.

Meanwhile, governor el-Rufai has vowed never to pay ransom to bandits to secure release of any victim of kidnapping.

El-Rufai has stuck to his guns even in the face of agitations by parents of the abducted students who want the government to negotiate with their children’s abductors.

He said even if his son was kidnapped he would change his position.

“I mean it and I will say it again here. Even if my son is kidnapped, I will rather pray for him to make heaven instead because I won’t pay any ransom,” el-Rufai had said during a radio interview.
