Suspected herdsmen reportedly killed a former councillor and another person in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The deceased popularly was known as Honourable Gbaro, a former representative of Gahwetun -Governor Darius Ishaku’s ward.

Gbaro and the other deceased person were found dead on with machete cuts on their bodies, according to reports.

A member of the community, identified as KM Kasman, on Friday told newsmen that the former councillor was on his farm when the marauders ran in on him while pursuing other victims. He alleged the killers are herdsmen.

“Three persons were clearing grasses at Muji farm settlement.

“The bushes have dried up and soon people would start burning bush and they don’t want their homes to be burnt in the process.

“While three of them were working, some killer people came around. They were seven in number; some with guns and some with machetes.

“So while those of them with guns were trying to cork their guns, two of the farmers escaped to the main road but one of them who was unlucky was killed.”

Confirming this, the Police spokesman in Taraba state, Abdullahi Usman, said investigation was on to find out perpetrators of the dastardly act.

“From my records and reliable information, these two men went to their farms and couldn’t come back. The people only found their corpses lying dead with machete cuts.

“Investigation is ongoing. Immediately we find out those who committed the act, we shall communicate to you accordingly,” Usman stated.
