Hotel staff in court for allegedly stealing customer’s wristwatch worth N420k

The Police on Tuesday arraigned a 37-year-old man, Victor Otuojor in a Karu Grade 1 Area Court, sitting in Abuja for allegedly stealing customer’s wristwatch valued at N420,000 and N265,000 cash.
The defendant, who is a staff of Miami Hotel, Karu, Abuja, is standing trial for criminal trespass, house breaking and theft, offences he denied committing.
The prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju told the court that the victim, one Kelvin Mbah reported the matter at the Karu police station on Dec. 7.
“The victim alleged that on Dec. 6, the defendant, who happens to be working at the above mentioned hotel where he lodged criminally broke into his hotel room without his consent.
“The defendant dishonestly stole the complainant’s Bentley wrist watch, valued at N420,000 and cash of N265,000, amounting to N685,000,” Adeyanju said.
He said the offence contravened sections 348, 353 and 287 of the Penal Code Law.
The judge, Abdullahi Jibrin, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N685, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Jan. 20, for hearing.
