Nollywood legend, Baba Suwe’s son, Adesola Omidina, has opened up about the struggles his father had after his arrest several years ago.

The legend, whose real name is Babatunde Omidina, was arrested and detained by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on October 12, 2011.

Baba Suwe was arrested on his way to Paris, France at the Murtala Mohammed Airport on allegations of ingesting hard drugs.

However, three days after his arrest, no drug was found in his system.

This had resulted in a court case where the court had ordered the agency to pay Baba Suwe a sum of N25 million to compensate him for wrongfully detaining him.

However, after his passing, his son, Adesola, had revealed how tough it was for the once loved actor.

Adesola revealed how the actor had lost endorsements and how his friends and colleagues had departed him for the sake of their image.

He said, “The case is not about what he told me. Rather, I was involved in the case from the beginning to the end. I was the one that hired the late Bamidele Aturu to handle my father’s case.

“I wouldn’t want to go deep into this issue; it is a story for the future.

“All the accusations that were levelled against my father were false. My father couldn’t even kill a rat, not to talk of what he was accused of. That was too expensive.

“There were some people who loved to associate themselves with my father but after that incident, they withdrew and were also trying to be careful to protect their image.

“My father was not able to enjoy certain privileges which could have come from the government, both state and federal; and also brands.

“As a young guy, all my income was spent on my father till he died just to make sure he was fine. We thank God for everything.”

The comic actor died on November 22, 2021 and was buried three days after.
