Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has refuted claim that he solicited financial support from Nigerians for the treatment of victims aboard Abuja-Kaduna rail line attack.
In a statement signed by Eric Ojiekwe, the Director Press and PR, Federal Ministry of Transportation, today, Amaechi said “the claim is false and a terrible misinterpretation”.
On the contrary, what the Minister said was, “I have said to the Nigerian people is to liaise with the hospital management and see how much money they can contribute for the treatment of the patients,” the statement added.
Recall that Amaechi, who spoke when he visited the victims who were being treated at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna yesterday, revealed that the army had not charged the patients a dime.
He, however, was quoted to have asked Nigerians to liaise with the hospital to contribute money as some of the patients who have bullets in their body may need surgery.
“They said they have only seven (patients) left and the rest have been discharged. The ministry, and I think the federal government, are grateful to the Nigerian Army for providing such services,” he was quoted to have said.
“But one thing I have said to the Nigerian people is to liaise with the hospital management and see how much money they can contribute for the treatment of the patients”.
