Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, has been named the Premier League Player of the month for March, becoming the first Leicester City player to win the award this season.

The 24-year-old beat England stars Harry Kane of Tottenham and Luke Shaw of Manchester United as well Algeria forward Riyad Mahrez of Manchester City among others to the award.

Iheanacho had a brilliant March, scoring five times in three consecutive Premier League matches, including a hat-trick in Leicester City’s 5-0 win over Sheffield United.

The former Manchester City star has also become the fourth Nigerian player to win the award, after Jay-Jay Okocha of Bolton, Osaze Odemwingie of West Brom and Odion Ighalo of Watford.

The last time a Leicester City player claimed the prize was when Jamie Vardy won it in October 2019.

“I’m so pleased and honoured to win this award,” Iheanacho told Leicester’s official website.

“I’m really enjoying playing at the minute and hopefully I can push on and help the team to finish as high as possible this season.”

Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen, West Ham’s Jesse Lingard, Leeds United’s Illan Meslier and Brighton’s Leandro Trossard were also nominated for the award.
