The Police has arrested the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) of killing an ex-aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak.

This is as the Imo State Police Command on Monday said it arrested one of the suspects, identified as Anosike Chimobi, from Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.

Spokesman of the Imo State Police Command Mike Abattam confirmed the arrest in a chat with newsmen.

Abattam said Chimobi had initially escaped during a gun duel with the police after he and members of his gang committed the crime.

Earlier, when he was paraded at a press briefing in Owerri, Imo State capital, on Monday, Chimobi said he was not a member of the gang that assassinated the late Gulak.

The suspect claimed he was a commercial driver and that members of the gang forced him at gun point to convey them during the operation.

Chimobi also said he initially rejected the approach by the gang, but he later gave in when he was threatened.

Recall that Gulak was killed along the Sam Mbakwe Airport road by unidentified gunmen in May 2021.

Gulak, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was reportedly shot in his car at Obiangwu, in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area, close to the airport.

Gulak was said to have left his room at Protea Hotel, Owerri, for the airport when he was attacked by the gunmen.
