The Kirikasamma Local Government Area of Jigawa said the council spent over N2 million on feeding and medical expenses of persons displaced by recent suspected herdsmen attack in the area.
Alhaji Salisu Garba-Kubayo, the Chairman of the council told newsmen in Kirikasamma, on Monday that the displaced persons fled attacks at Zagari and Dorowaji villages.
Garba-Kubayo said that they were accommodated by their relatives in Marma.
The chairman commended the police for deploying personnel to clear the attackers from Zagari Gubusum, Likori, Madaci, Baturiya, Gabta, Gishnawo and Saleri villages.
He said that the timely deployment had encouraged many residents of the towns to return to their homes.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that over 800 persons were displaced by the Oct. 17 herdsmen attacks in the area.
The Village Head of Zagari, Abubakar Barde, told NAN that attackers sacked over 400 residents of the town and looted their property.
“I was at home on that fateful Thursday afternoon when hundreds of suspected herdsmen armed with machetes, bows and arrows launched attack on Zagari, shooting sporadically.
“As we fled the town, they broke doors of our shops and houses, seizing handsets, necklace and money. Some of us came to Marma while others moved to Hadejia and Gishnau to stay with relatives,’’ he said.
Also speaking, Alhaji Adamu Gambo, the Ward Head of Dorowaji said the herdsmen invaded the village, shot and “forced us to leave our homes with nothing.’’
“Although no life was lost, over 400 residents of the town fled the attack. This is a clear case of banditry and invasion, and not farmers and herdsmen clashes as being reported,” he said.
