Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa (SLU) has again won the 2019 edition of the West African Universities Debate Championship which held at the University of Ghana, Legon.

The university won the championship at last year’s edition.

A statement issued by the university, Tuesday, said three countries – Nigeria, Ghana and Benin Republic – participated in the event which took place January 7 to 11.

The style of the debate followed that of the British Parliament in which four teams were assigned the role of government and opposition to debate a motion given by the judges. Before reaching the final round, Team SLU scaled through five rounds and a semifinal.

The SLU team, which was led by an academic staff (coach), Idris Hamza Yana, included the following students: Aisha Goni, Alhassan Tsalhatu, Haruna Abdurrahman and Ibrahim Hussaini Yakubu.

The vice-chancellor, Professor Lawan Sani Taura, while receiving the trophy from the team, congratulated them for the feat which, he said, would put the university on the global map of reputable universities.
