American singer, Britney Spears, has regained her freedom after being held ‘captive’ by her parents who were in possession of her multi-million dollar estate.

A Los Angeles judge, on Friday, has terminated the controversial guardianship that has controlled pop star Britney Spears for thirteen years.

Recall that a while ago, some fans and human rights activists had protested for the release of the pop singer with the hashtag ‘Free Britney’ which had trended for the most part on social media.

The ruling was cheered by the singer’s fans who were outside the downtown courthouse.

Judge Brenda Penny said, “Effective today… the conservatorship of the person and estate of Britney Jean Spears is hereby terminated. And that is the order of the court.”

In September, the father who was considered authoritarian and abusive was removed from his position in charge of the pop singer’s finances and estates.

Jamie Spears denied ever abusing his position, he recently said Britney Spears “believes that she can handle her own life.”

In dissolving the conservatorship, Judge Penny agreed to a caveat by which an accountant chosen by Britney’s lawyers, John Zabe, is to replace James Spears, in order to manage her estate on the singer’s behalf.

Britney recently got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Sam Asghari.

In one of her hearings, Britney claimed she wanted to end the guardianship so she can get married to her fiance, Sam, in a prenuptial agreement.

According to her, James Spears had prevented her from removing her contraceptive IUD, an allegation that the father denied.

Britney, who is a mother of two was previously married to rapper, Kevin Federline.

Spears’ estate is estimated to be worth $60 million, according to US media.
