Governor Umar Ganduje of Kano State has announced the relaxation of the lockdown order imposed on the state by President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Ganduje, Mondays and Thursdays would be lockdown-free days from 10 am to 4 pm.
The governor, however, noted that markets will remain closed except Yankaba and Yan Lemo where perishable goods are sold.
His announcement comes almost at the same time the death of Emir of Rano, Tafida Abubakar Ila, was confirmed.
The first-class monarch passed away barely 24 hours after being admitted in a hospital.
The Turakin Rano and member of Rano Emirate Council, Kabiru Alasan, confirmed that the monarch died on Saturday after a brief illness at the age of 74.
Alasan, who is also a member representing Rano-Kibiya-Bunkure Federal Constituency, said the emir passed on while on admission at the Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital, Nasarawa.
He said that Tafida was earlier referred to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) on Friday before he was moved to the Nasarawa Hospital.
Alasan added that the deceased is survived by two wives and 17 children.
Tafida was installed Emir of Rano in 2019, the sequel to the creation of five emirate councils by the Kano State House of Assembly.
The Emir of Rano is the latest high-profile personality to die mysteriously in Kano.
Last week, hundreds of natives reportedly passed in rather controversial circumstances, among them university dons and captains of industries.
With their verbal autopsies still expected, recent figures from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, however, suggests these tragic demises may be connected to the rampaging coronavirus.
Kano has recorded the highest cases in the last two days in the country following the reopening of the laboratory at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital.
The northwestern state, with 311 cases, is now the second worst-hit, trailing only Lagos.
