The real situation in Kano State may be gradually unfolding, after a long week, culminating in mysterious deaths and denials by the state government.

Kano recorded 38 new cases of COVID-19 as part of the 195 new infections confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Tuesday night.

Lagos maintained its status as epicentre with 80, totalling 844.

However, Kano, despite on 115 cases at the moment, may ultimately rassle the nation’s commercial capital, judging by the strange deaths in the state.

According to reports, hundreds of Kano residents lost their lives in rather controversial circumstances amidst the coronavirus.

While ex-governor Rabiu Kwankwaso attributed this to the lethal contagion, his successor Umar Ganduje differed, clasping it on other health-related issues like hypertension, diabetes, etc.

President Muhammadu Buhari intervened on Monday, declaring a two-week lockdown, deploying additional Federal Government manpower to the state.

In a national broadcast, the President said the measure was to enable the FG to contain the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

Less than 24 hours after his directive and the opening of the laboratory at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, however, the state recorded 38 cases.

And with another laboratory expected to be opened at the Bayero University Kano, an incredible surge in cases could follow.

Yet a verbal autopsy will determine the root causes of the shocking deaths as suggested by the state government.

In the meantime, though, it all points towards the rampaging COVID-19.
