The Lagos State Government has renamed Lagos State University (LASU) after late former governor Lateef Kayode Jakande.
Jakande, who governed Lagos State between October 1st 1979 and 31st December 1983, died on Thursday, 11th February.
Following calls by the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Unit and a university Don, Dr.Tayo Popoola, the University has been named Lagos State Jakande University (LAJU).
Meanwhile, the longest road at the Lagos State University, about two years ago, was been rechristened: ‘Dr Lateef Kayode Jakande Road.
The road stretches from the school’s main gate, courses through the Eyo masquerade junction, up to Faculty of Management and then the students’ hostel at the extreme.
The honour was done to the patriarch as part of strings of celebrations for his 90th birthday celebrations.
Jakande, it would be recalled, as the Lagos State governor, mooted the LASU initiative in 1981.
