Leicester City forward Ademola Lookman will represent Nigeria soon if the Nigeria Football Federation and Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, follow through with their interest.

NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, said recently that 24-year-old former England youth international Lookman was excited about playing for Nigeria, where his parents are from.

Lookman was in the England squad that won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2017 but has not been given an opportunity with the Three Lions senior squad.

However, he is eligible to play for Nigeria through his parents but the NFF needs to obtain documentation from FIFA to validate the switch.

“We are aware of Lookman’s desire to play for us and I have spoken to him as well. However, there is a process to it,” NFF official Tunde Adelakun told BBC Sport Africa.

“After this process, then comes the consideration and decision of the head coach [Gernot Rohr] on whether or when he deems it fit to get him involved.”

Lookman, who made his big breakthrough in England at Everton, is on loan at Leicester City from German club RB Leipzig.

He is in the Leicester City squad that has two Nigeria internationals in Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho.
