The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is planning to introduce corruption fighting into tertiary institutions in Nigeria as part of efforts to involve students in the fight against economic and financial crimes.

Its Chairman, Ibrahim Magu disclosed this in Maiduguri recently when a delegation of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone C, comprising North-east and North-central zones visited the commission in the Borno State capital.

Represented by Hamza Ridwan, second-in-command, Maiduguri Zonal office, Magu noted that “The fight against corruption in the higher institutions of learning across the North-east, North-central and the country at large is not a new one to the Commission. But the Commission cannot do it alone; we need the collaboration of stakeholders like the students union representatives”.

He explained that “the corruption taking place in higher institutions of learning is so alarming and we need you to notify us with facts and your identity will not be disclosed. When you hear complaints from academic and non-academic staff in your various institutions, you should be courageous to come and report to the Commission.”

As leaders of tomorrow, Magu urged Nigerian students to shun corruption and face their studies as this will serve as additional advantage to them in the future

“Make sure you shun corruption at this stage, because you are representing students who are the leaders of tomorrow and the general public as well.” He added.

Responding, Comrade Sulaiman Muhammad Sarki, coordinator, NANS Zone C, while appreciating the tireless and giant strides of the EFCC boss in the fight against economic and financial crimes in the country, disclosed the efforts of NANS Zone C in trying to organize an anti-corruption summit with the theme “The Dangers of Corruption and the Role of the Youth in the Fight against Graft.”
