An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Monday sentenced a 21-year-old man, Muhammed Mustapha, to nine months imprisonment for stealing a motorcycle valued at N230,000.

The Magistrate, Mrs B.S. Abdulsalam, sentenced Mustapha without an option of fine after he pleaded guilty to the crime.

Abdulsalam convicted and sentenced Mustapha, of no fixed address, following his guilty plea to a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.

The Magistrate, in her ruling, said that the jail term would run concurrently for three months and six months respectively.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Rosemary Samson, told the court that the accused and others at large committed the offence on Aug. 31 at about 8.30 p.m. at Kashia area, Awori Itele, Ota.

Samson said that the convict and accomplices conspired to steal a blue motorcycle with registration no. TRE 974 WZ, valued at N230,000, belonging to one Dada Kamiludeen.

She said the accused and his accomplices snatched the motorcycle from Kamiludeen when they asked him to take them to somewhere.

“The complainant raised an alarm and a passerby assisted him in recovering the motorcycle,”she said.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
