Man, 40, faces N650,000 fraud charge in Ogun

A 40-year-old man, Obanla Samson,was on arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State, for allegedly defrauding a man of N650,000.

Samson, whose address was not given, was arraigned on charges of obtaining money under false pretence, fraud and conspiracy.

The prosecutor, Insp. Rosemary Samson, told the court that the accused and others still at large, committed the offence in 2017 at Ilogbo area Ota, Ogun State.

Samson alleged that the accused collected N650,000 under the pretext of selling a plot of land to one Jimoh Makinde.

“The accused collected the money and converted it to his personal use but failed to sell the land to the complainant,” she said.

She said that the offence contravened Sections 390,419 and 516 of the Criminal Code Vol.1, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs B.S Abdulsalam, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Abdulsalam ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed and should show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

The case was adjourned until Nov.13 for further hearing.
