Man in court for allegedly impersonating police officer

A 41-year-old man, Ngozi Uba, on Tuesday appeared in a Magistrates’ Court in
Ebute Meta, Lagos for allegedly impersonating a police inspector.

The police charged Uba, whose address was not provided, with two counts of
impersonation and forgery.

He pleaded not guilty.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Raphael Dooney, told the court that the defendant
committed the offence on March 3, about 9.30a.m., at Ijora Olopa Area.

Dooney explained that the defendant was arrested while wearing a police
uniform and engaging in illegal truck escort.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 77 and 365 of the
Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr Tolu Agbona, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of
N50,000 with one surety, a relative, in like sum,.

Agbona adjourned the case until March 26 for trial.
