Mechanic in court for allegedly beating housewife to a pulp

A 24-year-old mechanic, Olayemi Ayadi, on Wednesday, appeared in an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, for allegedly beating up a housewife to pulp.

The defendant, whose address was not given, is charged with assault and breach of peace.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendant, on Nov. 10, 2019 around 9 a.m. on Broad Street, Erinje, Okitipupa, conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.

He said that the defendant attacked the complainant, Oke Adeyemi, on her way home and beat her up during an altercation.

Omoyeigha said that the complainant sustained various degrees of injuries.

The offence, he said, the offences contravened sections 355 and 249 (d) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Dickson Ogunfuyi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with a surety in like sum.

Ogunfuyi adjourned the case untill Feb. 12 for further hearing.
