The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has denied earlier report that his convoy killed a child in Ogbomosho on Thursday.

Earlier report had claimed that the governor’s convoy ran over the child, leading to his death. It adds that residents of the area protested the incident.

In his reaction, Makinde explained that his car was not involved but a Toyota Matrix whose owner (not part of his convoy) lost control of the vehicle leading to the child’s death.

The Governor, however, expressed his condolences to the parents of the girl and promised to bring the perpetrator to book.

In a tweet, the governor said “I received with deep concern the report that my convoy ran over a child on our way to Ogbomoso, earlier today. Our preliminary investigation revealed that the child was hit by an individual driving a Toyota Matrix car who lost control of his vehicle. He was not part of my convoy.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to the parents of the child. May her gentle soul rest in peace. Investigations are ongoing and we will ensure that the perpetrator(s) is brought to book,”

Makinde was reported to be in Ogbomoso to lead a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign, ahead of the Saturday Local Government election in the state.
