A Non-Governmental Organisation, Green Life Initiative (GLI), on Friday provided free medical outreach to no fewer than 500 residents in Abaji Area Council, FCT, to enhance their well-being.
Mr Silas Luka, the Coordinator of the group, said the medical outreach was aimed at bringing healthcare services closer to the people at the grassroots.
According to him, there is need for the government to do more in healthcare delivery in the rural areas as most communities in the country lack quality health services.
Luka said the medical outreach covered malaria tests and treatment, typhoid, personal hygiene, counselling, eye tests and distribution of sanitary pads to women of reproductive age in the area.
“The outreach is aimed to sensitise the people to the need to always know their status and get treatment to ensure healthy living and prosperous nation.
“It is also a health awareness to sensitise the people of Abaji to malaria prevention and personal hygiene and to counsel them on the need to always go for test before treatment.
“When it comes to humanitarian service, it is always our desire to add impact to life and I think the government should do more by assisting primary healthcare in the country,” he said.
The coordinator expressed concern about the prevalent cases of hypertension and malaria in rural areas and called on government to improve healthcare services to rural dwellers.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Samuel Yakubu, thanked the NGO for bringing free health care services to Abaji community and urged other organisations to emulate the gesture.
