The Speaker of the Niger House of Assembly, Alhaji Abdullah Wuse, has lauded the role of former Head of State, Retired Gen. Ibrahim Babangida in ensuring Nigeria remains one indivisible entity.

Wuse stated this when members of the assembly paid Babangida a courtesy visit at his hilltop residence in Minna on Thursday.

He said that the former military ruler had done more for the country outside office than when he was in power.

“Your role as a father in ensuring that this country remains one indivisible entity is something we and indeed the entire nation must continue to appreciate you for.

“You have done much more for Nigeria outside office than what you did while in office,” Wuse said.

He noted that members of the 9th assembly in the state were visiting him for guidance and blessings as they pilot the affairs of the state.

“We pray that the Almighty God will continue to keep you so that we can continue to tap from your wisdom and experience.

“We appreciate your time for us and we know you have done so out of your concern and commitment to the development of the state and the country at large,” he said.

Responding, the former Head of State tasked members of the house to work in synergy with the executive arm of government with a view to move the state forward.

“I want to urge you to maintain the good working relationship currently existing between the three different arms of government.

“That is what the constitution expects of you and that is what we your followers also expect from you for the benefit of the State.

“We read of the lack of synergy in other states, but I am happy that there has not been anything like that in our state and I want you to keep it up,” he added.

Babangida urged the lawmakers to be sensitive to the yearnings and aspirations of the people as they were closer to them.
