Kaduna State Government has entered into an agreement with a company to inject N1 billion in upgrading two abattoirs in Kaduna.
The company, Funsho Acreage Nig. Ltd, is expected to invest the N1 billion to upgrade and equip the abattoirs at Kawo and Tudunwada for standard beef processing.
Malam Dahiru Abdullahi, Information Officer of the State Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Kaduna.
“ Funsho Acreage Nigeria is investing a total of N1 billion to refurbish and upgrade the Tudun Wada and Kawo Abattoirs, Kaduna with state-of -the-art equipment and well trained personnel for globally standard beef processing.
“The company would invest N500 million in each of the abattoirs to ensure livestock processing activity in Kaduna State meet required global best practices and certification,” Abdullahi said.
He said that the two facilities had been handed over to the company after its managing director signed an agreement with the government.
Abdullahi said Dr Leo Y. Nyam, Director-General of the State Livestock Regulatory Authority signed and handed over the two abattoirs to the company.
“The MD/CEO of the Company, Mr Habeeb Funsho during handing and taking over of Tudun Wada and Kawo Abattoirs promised to attract global market into the beef industry in the state.”
According to the official, the project would be engaging, attractive and profitable, especially given its attendant value chains which would create means of sustainable livelihood for the people.
“The Director-General of the livestock agency had during the event, commended the effort of Gov Nasiru El-Rufai for the support and commitment to the regulatory body in carrying its mandate,“ Abdullahi said.
He said the ceremony was attended by the Chairman of regulatory agency, Alhaji Balarabe Jamo and executive members of the State Butchers Association.
Abdullahi said the state Chairman of the butchers association, Alhaji Gambo Sabuwa thanked Gov. El-Rufai for the effort to open up the livestock sector in the state.
“The association promised to provide the needed support to government and the investor in implementing the project.
“Sabuwa said his members were willing to be engaged in the project to improve their skills in the beef trade.”
