The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has observed that the Federal Government’s readiness to cooperate with India to curb the menace of Nigerians illegally migrating to India.

According to him, the collaboration will stop the use of fake Nigerian passports and other forms of counterfeit documentation. He lamented that some unscrupulous persons and syndicates were involved in the fraudulent procurement of fake Nigerian traveling documents to access India illegally.

Aregbesola said this while receiving the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Gangadharan Balasubramanian at his office in Abuja. This was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by the Ministry’s Director of Press, Afonja Ajibola.

The statement partly read, “The minister pledged the full cooperation of the Federal Government with India, through the Nigeria Immigration Service, to put a stop to the activities of unscrupulous persons and syndicates involved in the fraudulent procurement of fake Nigerian traveling documents to enter India illegally.

“The minister made it abundantly clear that Nigeria frowns at all illegalities and will not condone the procurement of fake visas by individuals in order to gain false entry into another country.

“He called for closer collaboration with the Indian government through the provision of useful information and intelligence reports that will assist in unmasking those involved and their modus operandi with a view to getting them arrested to face the full weight of the law.”
