Nigeria records 284 new cases, Lagos discharges 17, as total cases hit 6,677

Nigeria on Wednesday recorded 284 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 6,677.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control made this known via its Twitter handle on Wednesday.

The NCDC also announced that 200 patients have died of coronavirus pandemic in the country.

The health agency said, “On the 20th of May 2020, 284 new confirmed cases and eight deaths were recorded in Nigeria.

“No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

“Till date, 6677 cases have been confirmed, 1840 cases have been discharged and 200 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“The 284 new cases are reported from 13 states- Lagos(199), Rivers(26), Oyo(19), FCT(8), Borno (8), Plateau(7), Jigawa (6), Kano (5), Abia(2), Ekiti(1), Delta(1), Kwara (1), Taraba (1).”

Meanwhile, Lagos State has on Wednesday discharged 17 more patients undergoing treatment for coronavirus at isolation centres in the state.

The state’s Ministry of Health made this known via its Twitter handle on Wednesday.

It said that the patients were discharged after testing negative twice for the virus.

The health ministry said those discharged comprised of six females and 11 males.

The ministry said, “17 COVID-19 Lagos patients: six females and 11 males, all Nigerians have been discharged from our Yaba, Gbagada and LUTH Isolation facilities to reunite with the society

“The patients – seven from Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, six from LUTH and four from Gbagada Isolation Centres were discharged having fully recovered and tested negative to COVID-19 in two consecutive readings.

“This brings to 649, the number of discharged cases in Lagos.”
